The bridal veil that will cover the wedding hairstyle today is one of the most important bridal accessories to complete the bridal look.

The wedding veil comes in many shapes and sizes, veil, triangle, aviary, mantilla, etc., adapting to the fashions of the moment and especially the style of the wedding dress chosen for the wedding. But before becoming a fashion object its meaning was very different and its very ancient origins, discover them with us!

The origin

The origins of the wedding veil are very old, in fact for every age has had a very precise meaning. Already with the ancient Romans it was used during weddings, even if its appearance was very different from that to which we are accustomed; yellow or red, the colors of fire, had the name of Flammeum and was used as a good omen for the spouses.

Medieval and Renaissance

In medieval times, however, the veil begins to transform and stratify, moreover, they used to stop it on the field with beads, a beautiful decorative element. Even its meaning is different from the Roman era, now it is used to protect the bride from evil spirits and negativity, here is also the motif of a veil in several layers, as a sign of protection.

During the Renaissance, instead, the bridal veil was used for arranged marriages and to hide the bride's face, especially if the bride was not particularly beautiful, a way to prevent the groom from refusing it at first sight!

Twentieth century

Later, towards the beginning of the twentieth century, instead, the bridal veil becomes a trendy wedding accessory, used to define and complete the bride's look. Obviously every decade of the last century saw a type of veil as the protagonist, the veil in the '20s and' 30s to adapt to alletypical hairstyles of that era; in the 1960s, on the other hand, it began to approach today's shapes and sizes, transforming itself into an element with a smooth and simple fabric to match with a beautiful wedding dress in lace or chiffon.

In the East

In some countries of oriental culture, the ancient use is still attributed to the bridal veil, that is to hide the bride's face from the eyes of the future husband and all the guests before pronouncing the yes.

Modern times

Today, the wedding veil is truly a must have, enriching the chosen dress in an incredible way, with its lace decorations and extravagant shapes. Today, in fact, it is possible to choose from the delicate retro line of the 20s veils already mentioned above, up to the traditional waterfall or mantilla veils. And for true princesses also long and very long veils at court or cathedral, perfect for a fairytale wedding!

If you choose to wear the veil, so that your bridal look is elegant and delicate, try to create a perfect harmony between the hairstyle on which it will be applied, the accessories you will add and the bridal makeup shades. And you? Will you wear the veil? We are very curious to know!
